“This evening it was Pablo Barragán who had you under his spell. In addition to his perfect performance style in all respects, it was precisely his soulful tone that kept you holding your breath in suspense.” (Westdeutsche Zeitung)

The clarinetist, Pablo Barragán is recognised for his refined sound paired with a high skill of craftsmanship, stage charisma and boundless curiosity for the programming of his performances.

Pablo trained at the Seville Conservatory with Antonio Salguero and with Matthias Glander at the Fundación Barenboim-Said in Seville. He is the winner of the Prix Crédit Suisse Jeunes Solistes in 2013, amongst other competitions.

He has worked with orchestras such as the Brucknerhaus Orchestra Linz, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Radio Televisión Española, the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra with conductors such as Anja Bihlmaier, Thomas Dausgaard, Daniel Raiskin, and Zsolt Hamar.

Pablo is one of the most sought-after clarinettists and chamber music partners. He holds the honour of working regularly with wonderful musicians such as Elena Bashkirova, Beatrice Rana, Kian Soltani, Yuliana Avdeeva, Emmanuel Pahud, the Modigliani Quartet, the Sitkovetsky Trio, the Cremona Quartet and the Schumann Quartet. His chamber music invitations include performances at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Philharmonie Köln, the Konzerthaus Dortmund, the Rheingau Music Festival, Classiche Form, the Martha Argerich Festival, the Wigmore Hall London and the Tonhalle Zurich.

In the 2025/26 season, Pablo Barragán will perform several solo concerts with orchestra, opening the Cologne Chamber Orchestra's season under the direction of Christoph Poppen with two clarinet concertos: Hartmann's Chamber Concerto and Mozart's Clarinet Concerto. Further orchestral engagements will follow with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León under the direction of Vasily Petrenko, the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava under the direction of Tania Miller, the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra Wrocław under the direction of Michael Collins, and the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra in South America.

As a sought-after chamber musician, he will be performing with the Modigliani Quartet at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the Alte Oper Frankfurt, as well as with the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival Ensemble at the Stradivari Festival in Cremona and in Maribor. In connection with his latest recording ‘Balagan’, which is very popular among international music critics, he will be a guest at the Brucknerhaus Linz, the Lugano Arts Centre and the Wigmore Hall London together with Noa Wildschut and Amadeus Wiesensee.

Pablo's curiosity and creative spirit are also reflected in his two most recently released recordings, SZINERGIA and BALAGAN. BALAGAN, released in July 2024 on the Accentus label, focuses on works by 20th century Jewish composers including Paul Schoenfield, Ernest Bloch, Claude Vivier and Darius Milhaud. SZINERGIA, released in October 2024, presents Pablo's first recording with chamber orchestra, in this case the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra. The recording centres on Hartmann's Chamber Concerto and exciting arrangements of Bartok's Romanian Dances, Weiner's Divertimento, Kodaly's Double Dance and Paco de Lucia's Callejon del Muro.

Since 2020 Pablo Barragán has been a Professor at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Seville and at masterclasses such as Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. He is also an artist of the Buffet Crampons clarinet manufacturer and plays an instrument of the RC Prestige model.
